To Veil or not to Veil? Seattle Wedding Photographer Janet Lin Photography

That is the question… that many brides grapple with as they outfit themselves for one of the biggest days of their lives. The wedding veil is a long-standing bridal tradition that has stood the test of time.  While they tend to be thought of as vintage or traditional, the truth is that with the wide variety of veil styles available, a veil can be the perfect accompaniment to your bridal look whether your wedding has a classic vibe or is modern and chic. If you’re a bride that’s always wanted to wear a veil, the options are endless!

A wedding veil brings a touch of sweet femininity to the overall bridal look.  It adds texture, movement, and just an extra layer of softness to your wedding images. I also love the versatility of this once-in-a-lifetime accessory; you can wear it at the base of your updo, or at the top of your head if you’re allowing your locks to flow freely.  You can choose to wear the veil for only the ceremony portion of the day, or for the duration of the event.  Some brides even opt for a longer, more dramatic veil for the ceremony and then switch to something shorter and trendy for the reception!

If you decide to try a veil, here are a few quick tips for you!

1. Ask your stylist to demonstrate different ways to adhere it to your hair. Some veils look best perched low on the nape of the neck, while others are best fastened at the crown.

2. After purchasing your veil, make sure to bring it with you to your beauty trial, and talk with your stylist to find a hairstyle that compliments your veil and dress.

3. Keep in mind there are handy little tools like weighted pins to help keep that lovely lace smooth and straight, even if your venue is outdoors on a windy day.

Most importantly, know that whether or not you opt for a veil, your glowing happiness on your big day is the ultimate bridal accessory!

I can’t help myself but share a few images from Sabrina & Andy’s recent wedding to accompany this post. Sabrina is such a beautiful, kind soul and has a sense of style like you wouldn’t believe!  She opted to wear a gorgeous, floor length sparkly veil (this girl LOVES her sparkle!) on her wedding day, and I just love the way it added a romantic, ethereal touch to the overall mood. Sabrina & Andy are a match made in Heaven, and to witness this momentous day in their lives alongside their (incredible) friends and family is something I will treasure always.
